Yoruba actor, Ajigi Jaga dies

Popular Yoruba movie star, Muftau Adio, famously known as Ajigi jaga is dead. Ajigi jaga, who is in his early 60s,  died on Friday  in his Oko-Oba, Agege, Lagos, residence. According to information, his death is as a result of complications following injuries he sustained from a motorcycle accident about two weeks ago. The actor’s demise has been confirmed by the President of The Golden Movie Ambassadors (TGMA), Saidi Balogun. Confirming the sad incidence, Saidi described Ajigi Jaga’s death as a big loss to the movie industry, especially to members of The Golden Movie Ambassadors. WAEC to Withhold Students’ Results in 19 States

The West African Examinations Council, WAEC has threatened to withhold the results of students in 19 states that sat for the May/June 2015 WASSCE over N4billion debt owed by their state governments. According to PUNCH, WAEC Head of National Office, Lagos, Mr. Charles Eguridu, announced this on Monday at a briefing in Lagos. He said, ''A total number of 19 states in the country owe the Council in respect of entry fees for state government sponsored candidates for the May/June 2015 WASSCE. Some states also still owe the Council registration fees for the May/June 2014 WASSCE. ''We have written to the affected state governments without any response. The poor response of the debtor states is threatening the smooth operations of the Council. We, therefore, want to publicly plead with the affected states to off-set the registration fees of their candidates as soon as possible, as we cannot guarantee that the results of their candidates for the May/J...

ASUU kicks against admission policy

ASUU President Fagge THE Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in the University of Ibadan  has kicked against the policy of reassignment of candidates against their choices being adopted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB). It said JAMB has made the admission process chaotic and exposed candidates to fraudsters, adding that the board must respect candidates’ preferences and choices for tertiary institutions and consider the security of lives of candidates, cost, proximity, quality, and rights of the Nigerian child in arriving at any policy. ASUU called on Nigerians to join in calling for the scrapping of JAMB, saying it has outlived its usefulness. Its chairman, Prof. Segun Ajiboye, described the policy as insensitive, exploitative of the children of the poor and abuse of their fundamental human rights of freedom of choice. JAMB to re-distribute candidates with lower scores to other universities

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has said it will re-distribute candidates who scored above 280 but whose scores are less than cut-off-marks of their first choice universities to needy institutions . This is contained in a statement signed by the Head, Media and Publicity of the board, Fabian Benjamin, and made available to journalists on Sunday in Lagos. It said that the recent admission policy witnessed at the University of Lagos was aimed at ensuring that Nigerian universities admit only the top-best as was done globally. A middle-aged man, Juma Kabigi, has emerged champion of a food competition in Uganda, reports The Daily Monitor, one of the country’s newspapers. The Daily Monitor, in a series tweets, said Kabigi ate among other things – three loaves of bread, eight chapatis, 10 eggs, two raw cabbages, four apples and two bundles of raw green vegetables. Mr Kabigi it was reported won 10, 000 Ugandan shillings ( $3, £2, 625 Naira ) for all his trouble.
