A 20-year old house maid, Chioma Onyegili, was on Wednesday hacked to death by a 31-year-old son of her madam, Okechukwu for allegedly refusing to have s*x with him in Onitsha, Anambra State. The police on Thursday arraigned a part-time lecturer, Afeez Baruwa, for allegedly raping an 18-year-old admission seeker. It was reported on Thursday that Baruwa took the victim, who was seeking admission into the University of Lagos, Akoka, inside a study room, where he allegedly raped her. The suspect – Afeez Baruwa Our correspondent had reported that the victim’s father, who belonged to the same landlords’ association with Baruwa in the Abesan, Ipaja area, had allowed his daughter to follow the suspect, on July 23, to UNILAG for an admission process. The West African Examinations Council, WAEC has threatened to withhold the results of students in 19 states that sat for the May/June 2015 WASSCE over N4billion debt owed by their state governments. According to PUNCH, WAEC Head of National Office, Lagos, Mr. Charles Eguridu, announced this on Monday at a briefing in Lagos. He said, ''A total number of 19 states in the country owe the Council in respect of entry fees for state government sponsored candidates for the May/June 2015 WASSCE. Some states also still owe the Council registration fees for the May/June 2014 WASSCE. ''We have written to the affected state governments without any response. The poor response of the debtor states is threatening the smooth operations of the Council. ASUU President Fagge THE Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in the University of Ibadan  has kicked against the policy of reassignment of candidates against their choices being adopted by the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB). It said JAMB has made the admission process chaotic and exposed candidates to fraudsters, adding that the board must respect candidates’ preferences and choices for tertiary institutions and consider the security of lives of candidates, cost, proximity, quality, and rights of the Nigerian child in arriving at any policy. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, has said it will re-distribute candidates who scored above 280 but whose scores are less than cut-off-marks of their first choice universities to needy institutions . This is contained in a statement signed by the Head, Media and Publicity of the board, Fabian Benjamin, and made available to journalists on Sunday in Lagos. It said that the recent admission policy witnessed at the University of Lagos was aimed at ensuring that Nigerian universities admit only the top-best as was done globally.
